New Delhi: On Wednesday, police detained two girls who were living with their dead mother’s decaying body for over a year in the Lanka area of UP’s Varanasi.
As per the officials, the woman died back in December last year but instead of getting her body cremated, her two daughters chose to keep it with them and locked it in one of the rooms of their house, situated in Mandarawa Locality.
However, when their neighbors noticed the door of their house always remaining closed and did not get to see the girls for quite a while, they contacted their relatives who then arrived at the girl’s house and informed the concerned authorities about the same.
Initiating a probe, police soon reached the spot and broke open the door of the girls’ house after their knocking was met with silence.

As soon as the officers entered the house premises, they were shocked to see a decaying corpse lying in one of the rooms with both the girls sitting beside it.

Later, the Station house Officer (SHO) spoke about the incident and informed that the accused girls had been identified as Pallavai Tripaathi (27) & her younger sister Vaishvik Tripaathi (18) who were living with the dead body of their mother Usha Tripaathi who died owning to old age illness on December 2022 at the age of 52. They also used to burn a lot of Agarbattis (Incense sticks) in order to contain the unbearable smell of the rotting body.

SHO further revealed that the husband of the deceased woman (father of the accused girls ) abandoned his family and ran away from them almost two years back in 2021. He refused to come back to his family even after knowing about his wife’s death after which the accused girls kept their mother’s body locked inside the house with them.
The police have now detained both the girls and are currently investigating the matter.
