Video: Burning effigy of Ravana collapses on spectators, several injured

While many persons managed to get a narrow escape, some are said to be injured in the instance

New Delhi: A burning effigy fell on spectators at a Dussehra event, leaving several people injured on Wednesday. The incident took place at Dussehra Ground in Model Town in Haryana’s Yamunanagar, a video of which has surfaced on social media. In a viral video, the nearly burnt-out structure, parts of it still ablaze, can be seen collapsing on individuals standing dangerously close of the burning statue.

While many persons managed to get a narrow escape, some are said to be injured in the instance. The accident caused panic amongst the people who came to see the Ravana Dahan event, leading to a stampede-like situation.

Yamunanagar city police station in-charge Kamaljit Singh, who was present on the spot kept asking people to back away from the effigies since the burning structures were loaded with firecrackers, post which the spectators moved themselves to safer places.

Watch:

He told that the 3 effigies of Ravana, Kubhkaran, and Meghnath were all nearly-burnt, though the central structure which was the highest of them all suddenly fell on people.

The local administration has not informed of any serious injuries yet.
