New Delhi: A weird incident unfolded in Delhi’s Gandhinagar market when people protested against a shopkeeper for selling women’s undergarments with the holy Sikh symbol (Khanda Sahib) engraved on them.

Adding fuel to the fire, the crazy shopkeeper escalated the situation even further by arguing with the protesters who were voicing their anger against him for hurting their religious sentiments by openly selling such objectionable products. Later, a video related to the incident was shared by an individual Gagandeep Singh who dropped it while narrating the entire ordeal on Twitter ( now X).

While dropping the clip, Gagan demanded strict action against the accused shopkeeper and wrote, “It is very shameful that a shop owner in Delhi’s Wholesale Gandhinagar Market is selling undergarments with a Sikh symbol (Khanda Sahib) on them. When the locals asked him to stop selling this product, he misbehaved with them. Strict action should be taken against both the shopkeeper and the factory owner responsible.”

In the viral video, the controversial piece of clothing (women’s underwear with a holy Sikh Symbol printed on it ) can be seen being openly showcased in the accused’s shop situated in Gandhinagar’s wholesale market.

Angry locals demand legal action against accused shopkeeper

Showing dismay about the open sale of women’s undergarments with Sikh symbols adorned on them, locals of the area raised questions and wondered how the shopkeeper was allowed to sell such outrageous products freely. They even lodged an FIR against the accused shopkeeper for insulting the Sikh community after which,  police arrived and took him into custody while initiating a probe into the matter.

Wants action against everyone involved

Expressing anger over the incident, a woman spoke to the media and demanded strict action against anyone involved in the manufacturing and distributing of the controversial product under section 295 of the IPC which deals with offenses related to intended outrage of religious sentiments.

She further slammed anyone who might want to wear the product saying that the sacred symbol means a lot to their community and asserted that incidents like these are a deliberate attack to mock the Sikh religion.

Another person also recalled his experience with the shopkeeper and said that even after he requested him not to sell the objectionable piece of clothing, the accused shopkeeper continued to keep it on display at his shop. He further said that the shopkeeper is well aware of the scarcity of the Sikh Symbol (Khanda Sahib) as he often keeps going to Gurudwaras.
