New Delhi: Passengers of a Spicejet flight had a narrow escape in West Bengal last evening as the plane experienced massive mid-air turbulence while landing. As many as 40 passengers reportedly got injured in the turbulence that hit the plane while it was landing at Kazi Nazrul Islam airport in West Burdwan district of the state.
The plane was coming from Mumbai. Before it could land at the runway, it got caught in the approaching storm and it was then all hell broke loose on the flight. While the plane wobbled in the air, some luggage in the cabin fell on passengers leaving them injured.
The injured passengers were taken to hospital & given first aid treatment. Lot of passengers shared harrowing & scary tales of the mid-air turbulence. It was a close shave for them and many of them were scared for life.
A video of the inside plane also surfaced on social media, in which people could be seen panicking & asking for help while the plane descended to the runway.

Airline was SpiceJet. Again it was B737 MAX.

In the video, several cups, bottles & packages could be seen littered on the floor & aisle of the plane. While people were panicking, the air hostesses tried to comfort and reassure the passengers.
The flyers were told to keep themselves strapped in seatbelts but their seat belts tore on the impact and were jostled very hard in their seats.
Later, the SpiceJet expressed regret for the incident but it’s the adroitness of pilot that is winning praise from netizens for averting a ‘looming disaster’.
“On May 1, SpiceJet Boeing B737 aircraft operating flight SG-945 from Mumbai to Durgapur encountered severe turbulence during descent which unfortunately resulted in injuries to a few passengers,” said SpiceJet spokesperson in a statement.
