Watch: Air India’s massive recruitment drive in Mumbai leads to stampede scare

Air India’s massive recruitment drive for 600 posts for the post of Airport loaders has led to the company getting pulled under the scanner.

New Delhi: Air India’s massive recruitment drive for 600 posts for the post of Airport loaders has led to the company getting pulled under the scanner. Recently, the company opened around 600 vacancies for the post of Airport loaders for which a whopping 25,000 job seekers applied.

The videos which made their way to the social media and public spheres showed the job seekers bumping into each other. Many job aspirants had traversed long distances waiting for hours without any food or water. According to NDTV, the overcrowded situation made it difficult for the Air India authorities to manage the huge sea of people.

This is the second instance where huge people have turned out for a meagre number of openings. Earlier, a similar situation had unfolded in Gujarat, the home state of the honourable Prime Minister of India. These recurrent situations of job-seekers searching for jobs in desperation point to a dilapidated job structure that is underway in India.

What do we do? There is so much unemployment…” Job seekers jeer at the rampant unemployment situation

Tired Job-seekers who had travelled from far and wide places were visibly angry at the lackadaisical attitude of the authorities. Many of the job seekers thought that the authorities were unperturbed by the entire incident that was unfolding in front of them.

Speaking to NDTV, Prathameshwar who had travelled from the Buldhana district of Maharastra berated the dilly-dally situation and said, “I have come to apply for the post of handyman. They are offering a salary of Rs 22,500…” Prathameshwar who is currently a BBA student in the second year added, “What do we do? There is so much unemployment…

Another job aspirant who has a BA degree but did not quote his name in the media reportedly came forward and said that he ‘needs a job’ desperately for which he has come today. Not only graduates but post-grads had also turned up for the job. An M.Com student from Alwar, Rajasthan had applied for the job as ‘someone told him that the salary here is good.’

This desperation amongst the youth draws the dichotomy that India is going through. On one hand, there is an earnest transformation attempt to change the country into a “Vishwa Guru” while on the other side, long queues of aspiring youth are suffocated in search of a job.
