WATCH: When PM Modi got teary-eyed, recalling mother’s struggles in a chat with Mark Zuckerberg

Seven years ago, during a chat, Zuckerberg asked PM Modi about his mother when he became emotional remembering Heeraben.

New Delhi: PM Narendra Modi lost his mother Heeraben Modi today as she passed away due to an illness at the age of 100. PM Modi’s relationship with his mother is known to be a sweet and pious relationship where the PM, like every son, draws inspiration from his mother. He publically opened up about the relation with his mother in an interview with Meta (then Facebook) CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

Seven years ago, during a chat, Zuckerberg asked PM Modi about his mother when he became emotional remembering Heeraben. Zuckerberg said that family has importance in both of their lives and asked about the role of Narendra Modi’s mother in his life. Answering the question, PM Modi said that he comes from a humble background and his parents have played a big role in his life. He told that he used to sell tea at a railway station. He became emotional while telling that his father is no more and his mother is aged more than 90 and does all her work by herself.

Talking about his mother, he said that she is not literate but she follows the news on television. He said that during his childhood his mother used to do petty work in other households and worked as a labourer for their survival. He added that there are several mothers in India who have sacrificed themselves for their children’s dreams.

PM visited his mother’s residence this morning and carried her mortal remains to the crematorium. He performed his mother’s last rites in Gandhinagar. While sharing the news of his mother’s demise, he wrote that he always felt a trinity in her, which contains the journey of an ascetic, the symbol of a ‘Karmayogi’ and a life committed to values.
