West Bengal Ram Navami Violence In Howrah: Calcutta High Court orders NIA investigation into violence

On April 10th, the reported submitted by the West Bengal Police to High Court suggested that the Ram Navami clashes were pre-planned.

New Delhi: The Calcutta High Court today transferred the probe in the violence that broke out during Ram Navami in Howrah and Dalkhola districts and other parts of West Bengal to the  National Investigation Agency (NIA).

The violence had broke in several areas in West Bengal last month.

The investigation of this case was transferred to the NIA by the high court from the West Bengal police after a petition was filed by BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari.

The High Court has also directed the West Bengal Police to transfer of all records and CCTV footage to the central government within two weeks so that the NIA can start the probe in this matter.

However, the investigation of NIA in Bengal ram navmi violence will begin only after it gets NOC from the Central government.

The clash broke out between two groups in the district and several vehicles were set on fire and stones were thrown and shops were broken abd ransacked.

Earlier, CM Mamata Banerjee alleged that the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) hired goons from other states to stage communal riots.

In Ram Navami procession, slogans of ‘Jai Shri Ram’ was changed by the people who participated in it. Also, some people were seen carrying swords and trishulas in the procession.
