New Delhi: Officials said that Cyclone Mocha intensified into a “very severe” cyclonic storm today over the southeast and adjoining areas of central Bay of Bengal today.
So far, over 8 teams and 200 rescuers have been deployed by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) in West Bengal’s Digha.
Earlier on Monday (May 8), West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee asked the people to not fear the cyclone Mocha as the state is fully prepared and is handling the situation.
What is Cyclone Mocha?
The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Cyclone Mocha, is said to be India Meteorological Department (IMD), Cyclone Mocha, and is expected to grow into a very severe storm by today (May 12, Friday).
The weather service said that a low-pressure region has been developed over the South Andaman Sea and Southeast Bay of Bengal.
Also, Eastern states have been put on high alert due to this, including the Andaman Islands, Odisha and West Bengal.

How was Cyclone Mocha named?
‘Cyclone Mocha’-the name was suggested by Yemen, it was selected to honour the Red Sea port city which was credited for bringing coffee to the world more than 500 years ago.
The names for cyclones are however determined by local regulations.
