What is Mahakal Lok corridor of Ujjain, that will be inaugurated by PM Modi

The Prime Minister will reach Mahakal temple in evening and perform puja before dedicating the state-of-the art corridor to the nation.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the first phase of ‘Mahakal Lok’ corridor in Ujjain city of Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday.

The project undertaken at a cost of Rs 856 crore will give a fillip to pilgrimage in the holy city while also enrich the experience of devotees.

Mahakal temple is one of the most prominent among 12 ‘Jyotirlingas’ of the country and is visited by lakhs of devotees each year. The newly developed corridor around the temple has been named ‘Mahakal Lok’ and will be opened for public by PM Modi.

The Prime Minister will reach Mahakal temple in evening and perform puja before dedicating the state-of-the art corridor to the nation. PM Modi will take part in a public function at the Kartik Mela Ground. MP CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan reviewed the preparations for its grand opening on Sunday.

All you need to know about Mahakal Lok:

# The 900 meter long corridor forms the 1st phase of Mahakaleshwar Temple Corridor development project and has been made at a cost of Rs 316 crore. The 900-meter long corridor is said to be the largest such corridors built around temple in the country.

# Under the Rs 856 crore corridor project, ancient Rudrasagar Lake has also been revived as part of the redevelopment of temple complex.

# 2 big gateways have been erected on the corridor – Nandi Dwar & Pinaki Dwar.

# Other notable features of the corridor include 108 ornate pillars made by artists and craftsmen from Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Orissa.

# Fountains & more than 50 murals have also been erect to depict stories from ‘Shiv Puran’. They will special attraction of the Mahakal Lok.

# The murals on the wall are based on Shiva Purana stories – such as act of creation, the Birth of Ganesha, Story of Sati and Daksha. The corridor is also lined by several religious sculpturs depicting the life of Lord Shiva.

# The Phase II of Temple corridor is also underway and estimated to cost around Rs 310 crore. Under this phase, focus will be on expansion on the Northern & Eastern fronts of the temple.
