New Delhi: Monkeypox is infecting people very fast all over the world. So far, 3,200 confirmed cases and one death of monkeypox cases have been reported. The World Health Organisation is considering declaring it a global emergency.

What is Monkeypox and its source?

The monkeypox virus originally originated in a captive monkey around the year 1970. It is the same family of viruses as smallpox. The largest outbreak of the virus was experienced in Nigeria in 2017.  The symptoms of the virus in the infected persons include fever, headaches, swellings, aching muscles, and back pain.

How to protect yourself from monkeypox?

Before we tell you about the ways, we must tell you that monkeypox can be prevented by taking smallpox vaccine but the vaccine is currently under trail.

  • Avoid contact with infected animals, especially dead or sick animals.
  • Eat only thoroughly cooked foods that contain animal meat or parts.
  • Frequently wash your hands with soap and water.
  • Avoid unnecessary contact with people who may be infected with the virus.
  • During sex, use condoms and dental dams.
  • Wear a mask to cover your mouth in crowd.
  • Use PPE kit or personal protective equipment when caring for people infect with the virus.
  • Avoid any skin contact with people who may be infected, according to the WHO.
