New Delhi: Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi was reprimanded in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, by Speaker Om Birla for ‘playing to the gallery’ and not addressing the moot question of debate.

Congress leader, who recently finished his over 3,000 km long Bharat Jodo Yatra, had rolled up his sleeves to target Modi government over latter’s alleged links with Gautam Adani Group.

While participating in the debate on Motion of Thanks to President’s address, Rahul Gandhi hit out at the Centre and accused it of protecting & promoting Adani Group’s interests, at the cost of country’s billion-plus population. He claimed that it was because of Modi government’s support that Adani’s fortunes have swelled to unprecedented heights.

Launching a direct attack on Prime Minister, Rahul asked, “how much money has the BJP government given to Adani group, ever since it came to power in 2014.”

Claiming that Modi government was helping it financially via electoral bonds, he also waved photographs of PM Modi along with billionaire Gautam Adani.

Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla took strong objection to ‘poster show’ in the House and asked him to refrain from such ‘posterbaazi’.

“If you show posters, they (BJP) will show posters of the Rajasthan chief minister (with Adani). Parliament is not for these things,” Birla said.

While pulling up the Congress leader, Speaker Om Birla asked him to focus on the President’s address, to which Rahul said that crucial issues of unemployment & price rise were not even mentioned in it.

Following Rahul’s volley of allegations against Prime Minister over Adani links, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey has demanded action against him for making unverified & defamatory comments against PM Modi in the House. He also wrote a letter to Speaker Om Birla and demanded action for leveling crony capitalism charge without ‘documentary evidence’.
