Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation tonight at 8pm as the number of Covid-19 cases has surged to 446 in the country.

People on Sunday hose to stay indoors in Jama Masjid and Daryaganj areas to observe Janta Curfew. The roads in most parts of the national capital also bore a deserted look. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday laid emphasis on individual "determination" and "restraint through social distancing" in fighting the global pandemic and called for 'Janata Curfew' today to prepare for challenges of the future.

PM Modi tweeted, "Mother ... With the blessings of crores of mothers like you, countless people like doctors, nurses, medical staff, policemen, security personnel, scavengers and media workers who are fighting the corona virus will get inspired."

"I am seeking one more support from every countrymen today. This is a public curfew. Janata curfew means for the public, curfew imposed by the public on its own. Every citizen must follow Janata curfew on this Sunday, March 22, from 7 am to 9 pm," PM Modi said in address to the nation.

In the wake of growing COVID-19 cases in the country, the Health and Family Welfare Ministry has issued an advisory for the people.

In the meeting, the Prime Minister emphasised on actively engaging with individuals, local communities and organisations in chalking out mechanisms to fight the pandemic. He also urged officials and technical experts to deliberate on the steps to be taken next.

The Prime Minister said that India could share with the SAARC partners its disease surveillance software which helps trace possible virus carriers and the people they contacted.

"As we prepare to face this challenge, let me briefly share India's experience of combating the spread of this virus so far. 'Prepare, but don't panic' has been our guiding mantra," he added.

PM Modi had proposed that the leaders of the SAARC countries should chalk out a joint strategy to fight coronavirus.

An official release said that President Ram Nath Kovind will give away the Nari Shakti Puraskar on Sunday at a function in Rashtrapati Bhawan.
