New Delhi: Last year in March, Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw tested ‘Kavach’, an Automatic Train Protection System in Secunderabad. The video shows Vaishnaw himself sitting with the train driver and putting himself at risk while testing the new technology. He also showed the test video at a conference and introduced Kavach as a successfully tested technology.
It was a brave call as the Railways Minister and the Railways Board Chairman sat in two trains coming towards each other. The trains were eventually stopped by the automatic brake system and the test was proven to be successful. There could have been a deadly accident, but the authorities trusted the technology and the train drivers.
It was a dramatic video captured with the help of drones which shows Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in one train and the Chairman of the Railways Board in the other as both train approach each other.

Kavach is an Automatic Train Protection System that stops the train automatically if another train approaches it. It creates a safety and security envelope around the trains and its efficiency will be useful to avoid collisions and accidents.
The safety system has been approved to be used for speeds up to 160 kmph and is to be implemented on Delhi-Mumbai and Delhi-Howrah corridors as part of Mission Raftar. The project was announced in the last year’s budget and even this year’s budget increased the amount put into the railways, showing a green flag to its future projects.
