New Delhi: The Bihar government on Monday notified the release of 27 prisoners, including former MP Anand Mohan Singh, days after amending the Bihar Prison Manual that triggered a massive opposition backlash.

Who is Anand Mohan Singh?

In the 1994 murder of bureaucrat G Krishnaiah, Former MP Anand Mohan Singh was convicted.

G Krishnaiah, then Gopalganj District Magistrate, was killed when the mob mob allegedly which was provoked by Anand Mohan Singh attacked him.

In 2007, the gangster-turned-politician, Anand Mohan Singh was sentenced to death by a lower court in Bihar.

Anand Mohan Singh was sentenced to life imprisonment.

He have completed 14 years’ of life sentence in connection with murder of Gopalganj District Magistrate.

The Bihar law department, in the new notification said that the new rules will be applicable for prisoners who have served the actual sentence of 14 years or a sentence of 20 years with remission.

Not only the change in the prision rule has stirred up huge controversy but the release of Anand Mohan Singh has also resulted to opposiotion parties criticising the change, The BSP chief Mayawati’s Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has also termed the change as “anti-Dalit”.

BJP’s Amit Malviya also hit out at Bihar CM Nitish Kumar for this change.

On the otehr hand, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar and Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav were clicked while attending the engagement function of jailed Former MP Anand Mohan Singh’s son and RJD MLA Chetan Anand.
