New Delhi: Journalist Danish Siddiqui, has been awarded the Pulitzer Prize for feature photography for his coverage of the Covid19 pandemic situation in India.

Danish was killed while covering Afghanistan’s conflict situation. Not only Dansih but Reuters journalists Adnan Abidi, Sanna Irshad Mattoo, and Amit Dave were also honoured the Pulitzer Prize.

Who was Dansih?

He was working for Reuters, based in India as the Chief Photographer. Dansih was a graduate with a degree in economics from Jamia Millia Islamia. He had also done post-graduation studies in Mass Communication from Jamia.

In 2018, Danish Siddiqui won the Pulitzer Prize for Feature Photography, as part of group of photographers, for documenting the Rohingya refugee crisis.

When did he die?

Danish lost his life in 2021 while covering a clash between Afghan security forces and Taliban forces in Spin Boldak, near the Pakistan border.

The late photo journalist is survived by his two children and wife, a German national.

Apart from this, Danish Siddiqui as a photojournalist had covered several issues across the world. Some of his works include covering the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, the Rohingya refugee crisis, Hong Kong protests and Nepal earthquakes.

What is Pulitzer Prize?

Pulitzer Prize, is the award given for achievements in online journalism, literature, magazine, newspaper and musical composition within the United States.

It was in 1917 that it was established by provisions in the will of Joseph Pulitzer, who had made his fortune as a newspaper publisher, and is administered by Columbia University.
