New Delhi: After the BJP parliamentary board meeting at party headquarter in New Delhi, Bhartiya Janta Party chief JP Nadda announced that Jagdeep Dhankar will be the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate for the Vice Presidential election. In the name of Dhankar, PM Modi said Dhankar has the potential to guide the proceedings of the House with aim of furthering national progress.
The election for the new Vice President of India will take place on August 6. The candidates have been given time till July 19 to file their nomination papers. One can withdraw his name by July 22.
Who is Jagdeep Dhankar?
Jagdeep Dhankar, 71, was born in Rajasthan’s Kithana village of Jhunjhunu district in 1951 in an agrarian household. Dhankar completed his early education at Sainik School, Chittorgarh.
He completed his graduation in Physics and later he also pursued LLB from Rajasthan University. After completing LLB, the 71-year-old leader also practised in both the Rajasthan High Court and the Supreme Court of India.
In politics, Dhankar made his entry by winning the Jhunjhunu seat in the 1989 Lok Sabha elections. He was also elected to the Rajasthan Assembly after winning the Kishangarh constituency in the Ajmer district.
In 2019, he was appointed as Governor of West Bengal where we witnessed differences between him and CM Mamata Banerjee several times. Banerjee-led party TMC calls him an agent of the BJP in the state.
On the personal front, Dhankar has tied the know with Sudesh Dhankhar who holds a postgraduate degree in economics and is a social worker.
Their daughter Kamna is married to Kartikeya Vajpayee who is a lawyer in Supreme Court.
