Wrestlers carry out candlelight protest against WFI chief Brij Bhushan Singh at India Gate

The grapplers continued their demand for Brij Bhushan’s arrest and a huge amount of people joined them in the protest.

New Delhi: Wrestlers carried a candlelight protest at India Gate in Delhi against WFI chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. The grapplers continued their demand for Brij Bhushan’s arrest and a huge amount of people joined them in the protest. Olympic medallists Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Mallik along with CWG gold medallist Vinesh Phogat led the protest.

Bajrang Punia also addressed the gathering and called for Brij Bhushan’s arrest. The wrestlers have been protesting at the Jantar Mantar for a month and they decided to take it to India Gate to gather more support against the accused. A lot of people came in solidarity with wrestlers with candles and tricolour in their hands.

Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh is accused of sexually harassing women wrestlers, including a minor. While he is constantly denying the allegations and calling the wrestlers’ protest a politically motivated event, the grapplers are continuing with their demands spending days and nights on the streets.

Vinesh Phogat also announced a peaceful women’s Maha Panchayat in front of the new Parliament building on May 28.

Recently, Brij Bhushan tweeted that he is ready to get a polygraph, narco, or a lie detector test if Vinesh and Bajrang will also undergo the same. Replying to the statement, Vinesh Phogat accepted the challenge and agreed to undergo a lie detector test.

The protestors’ demand for registration of an FIR against Brij Bhushan was fulfilled when Supreme Court directed Delhi Police and they filed two separate FIRs. The apex court closed the case after they gave the directions to Delhi Police and asked the wrestlers to go to a lower court or Delhi High Court for further demands. Delhi police are currently investigating the case.
