New Delhi: People across Maharashtra, and especially Mumbaikars are observing August 23 as the World Vada Pav Day, owing to the most popular street food delicacy of the state.

This Indian version of burger is made from fresh pav and potato vada and has dominated the snack time of people of all ages, occupations and classes in and around country’s economical capital Mumbai.

Found in almost every market, street and cafe in the city, Vada Pav is an essential part of any Mumbaikar’s daily diet today.

While Mumbaikars are celebrating the day with full zeal and passion for their beloved street food, microblogging site Twitter is flooded with humble dishes and hilarious memes by Netizens.

While several memes are going viral for their witty content, some has emerged on top in the pretext of their informative nature.

The official Twitter handle of Maharashtra Tourism shared an inviting pic of a Vada Pav and wrote, “If you love eating Vada Pav, today is your day to celebrate by enjoying this delicious snack. Happy World Vada Pav Day. Tag your Vada Pav squad in the comments below”.

Sharing some interesting and lesser known information regarding the delicious snack, a user named Dipak Pujari wrote, “Today is World Vada Pav Day. It is believed to be invented on 23rd Aug 1966 by Mumbaikar, Ashok Vaidya, who opened the 1st Vada Pav stall opp Dadar Station, serving 1000s of textile workers – in need of a quick, inexpensive snack every day on way to the mills”.
