New Delhi: Almost after 60 years, a metal plate inserted in the former India skipper Nari Contractor skull was successfully removed on Wednesday.
The 88-year old was successfully operated upon at a city hospital on Wednesday where the doctors had removed a metal plate inserted in his skull 60 years ago.
A metal skull was inserted after he was struck by a Charlie Griffith bouncer on the West Indies tour and suffered a life-threatening head injury.
Contractor’s son, Hoshedar informed that the surgery of former Indian cricketer was successfully done and it was an hour-long surgery.
He also said that his father is recovering well.
Nari Contractor was injured in 1962 and it was so serious that it required many emergency operations before he was declared out of danger by the doctors.
To protect him from further injury at the injured area, a titanium plate was inserted.
However, after so many years, the doctors had now suggested to remove it due to degeneration of the skin over the plate as they saw a risk of future infection.
Nari Contractor, a left left-handed opening batter, played 31 Tests from 1955 to 1972.
