New Delhi: Off-spinner Washington Sundar who proved to be the surprise package for India in the second Test match against New Zealand has now attracted attention from various IPL franchises.

Sundar entered the 2nd Test as a wild card entry and ended the second test with 11/115 from 2 innings. Although India lost the second test against New Zealand, Sundar’s contribution has been recognised by the BCCI. Subsequently, the Indian all-rounder has been included in the upcoming Border Gavaskar Trophy as the third spinner.


At least three teams have shown their interest in the off-spinning all-rounder

  • Chennai Super Kings

Sundar is keen to go into the auction pool. At the moment at least three teams- Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings- have shown a huge interest in him. While he will not be in the Sunrisers Hyderabad’s retention list, SRH could retain Sundar in the IPL auction by using the RTM (Right to Match) card…

Sundar has already shown his talent with the ball and bat. Naturally, he is surely going to be a prized asset going ahead with the auctions. However, it is to be remembered that the Indian all-rounder is yet to make a significant impact in the IPL circuit.


Washington who was part of the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the last edition has largely remained unused by the team. With the ‘Impact Player’ rule in place, the 25-year-old all-rounder was largely excluded from the Playing XI. In the end, Sundar managed to start only 2 games and picked up 2 wickets at the expense of 73 runs.

Coming to national colours, Sundar has played 52 T20Is for India in which he has taken 47 wickets at an average of 23.48 and scored 161 runs at an average of 13.41.
