New Delhi: Asia Cup 2022 has surrounded Sri Lanka and Afghanistan with controversies, taking into account their current political situations. As both teams play the opening encounter away from home, the controversy has not left them yet. The last ball of the second over had in store a debatable decision by the third umpire Jayaraman Madangopal.
Pathum Nissanka was given out on delivery by Naveen-ul-Haq. Sri Lanka reviewed and the TV umpire asked the on-field umpire to stay on his decision. It was a slower ball and Nissanka tried to play a shot on the mid-on and according to the umpires, he edged the ball. However, what ultra-edge showed was a clearly different image. there was a small movement in the line but no clear spike, so the third umpire decided to stay with the decision by the on-field umpire.
As Sri Lanka went down 5/3 after two overs, the upset Sri Lankan fans are poring in their views on the dismissal on the internet. People are questioning the decision while the game goes on.

Pathum Nissanka was given out. The murmur was so slightest that you could question the ultra edge. But the bat was really close to ball and the umpire gave out on the field.

Madangopal was compared to Steve Buckner.
