Asian Games 2023, October 2, Day 9: Ancy Sojan clinches silver, Indian medal tally moves to 60

India secured two bronze medals in roller skating, courtesy of the men’s and women’s teams winning bronze in each of their speed skating 3000m relay races for the first time ever.

New Delhi: The Indian contingent is marching forward in the Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, China, with a strong motivation to break their best-ever Asian Games record of 70 medals.

India secured two bronze medals in roller skating, courtesy of the men’s and women’s teams winning bronze in each of their speed skating 3000m relay races, to start day 9 for them.

India then won their first medal in table tennis at the Asian Games 2023, courtesy of Sutirtha Mukherjee and Ayhika Mukherjee’s bronze in the women’s doubles event.

India ended their day by adding 4 more medals from athletics, taking the total number of medals to 60.

India’s Kidambi Srikanth secured an easy win in the round of 64, beating his Vietnamese opponent in straight sets of 21-10, 21-9.

11:32: First medal from table tennis 

Indian table tennis pair Sutirtha Mukherjee and Ayhika Mukherjee secured a bronze medal after losing out against North Korea’s Cha Suyong and Pak Sugyong in the table tennis women’s doubles category semifinals by a close margin of 3-4.

Indian runner Vithya Ramraj equals PT Usha’s national record of 55.42 seconds, in the women’s 400m hurdles race.

Vithya finished her qualification heat at the top, getting a direct qualification for the finals.

7:25: One brings two

Indian men’s roller skating team of Aryanpal Singh Ghuman, Anandkumar Velkumar, Siddhant Rahul Kamble and Vikram Rajendra Ingale has clinched a bronze medal in the men’s speed skating 3000m relay team race. Indian medal tally moves to 55 with this medal.

Chinese Taipei won gold, while the Korean team walked away with silver.

Just like the men’s, the Indian women’s roller skating team of Sanjana Bathula, Karthika Jagadeeswaran, Heeral Sadhu and Aarathy Kasturi Raj, clinched another bronze for India by finishing third in the women’s speed skating 3000m relay team race. giving India their first medal on day 9 of the Asian Games 2023.

Just like the men’s category, Chinese Taipei won the gold, while the Korean team secured a silver medal.
