Asian Games 2023, Day 12: India wins 2 gold in Archery, 1 in Squash; total tally touches 84

The Indian squash pair of Dipika Pallikal Karthik and Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu created history by winning the first-ever mixed doubles event at the Asian Games.

New Delhi: After enjoying a historic and record-breaking day at the Asian Games 2023, on Wednesday. India is now on the quest to reach the magical three-figure mark of total medals in one single edition of the Asian Games.

India started day 12, with an upset as their star shuttler, PV Sindhu, was knocked out of the quarterfinals.

However, the women’s compound archery team soon put smiles on the faces of everyone in the nation by winning their gold medal match against the Chinese Taipei.

India won two more gold medals courtesy of the Indian men’s compound archery team, who defeated South Korea in the finals, and the squash pair of Dipika Pallikal Karthik and Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu, who won the first-ever mixed doubles event at the Asian Games.

India’s biggest heartbreak came when the women’s hockey team lost to  China by 0-3, in the semifinals and are now forced to play the bronze medal match.

16:37:Bronze from wrestling

Indian wrestler Antim Pangal clinched a bronze medal after defeating Mongolia’s Bolortuya by 3-1, in the bronze medal match in the women’s 53 Kg freestyle wrestling.

16:10: Silver for Saurav

Indian squash veteran Saurav Ghosal settles down with a silver medal after losing out to Malaysia’s Eain Yow by 1-3, in the finals.

15:00: Defeated, but all not lost

Indian women’s hockey team goes down against the Chinese women’s team in the semifinals by 0-4, and will now play for the bronze medal now.

14:30: Kabaddi update (Men’s)

Indian men’s kabaddi team finished their group stage undefeated after beating Japan by 56-29.

India will now face Pakistan in the semifinals on Friday.

14:20: Third gold of the day

Indian men’s compound archery team of Abhishek Verma, Ojas Praveen, and Prathamesh has won another gold medal for India after defeating South Korea by 235-230 in the finals, taking Indian medals tally to 84

13:27: Archery update (Compound men’s team)

Indian men’s compound archery team has booked their ticket for the finals after beating Chinese Taipei in the semifinals by 234-224.

India will now face the South Koreans in the finals at 13:55 Hrs IST, later today.

12:35: Archery update (Compound men’s team)

Indian men’s compound archery team has qualified for the semifinals after defeating Bhutan by 235-221  in the quarterfinals.

India will now face the Chinese Taipei in the finals, which is slated for later today at 13:05 Hrs IST.

12:10: Gold number 20

Indian squash duo of Dipika Pallikal and Harinder Pal Singh beam the first-ever mixed doubles gold medalists in the first-ever squash mixed doubles event at the Asian Games after beating Malaysia’s Aifa Azman and Md. Shafiq in the finals, giving India their 20th gold medal at the 19th Asian Games.

11:33: Singles medal assured from badminton

Indian star shuttler HS Pronoy defeated Malaysian Lee Jia Zii in the men’s singles quarterfinals to enter the semifinals and ensure one more medal in badminton from India.

10:09: Wrestling update 


Indian wrestlers Pooja, Antim, and Mansi will play for the bronze medal in the women’s division after winning their repechage round matches, respectively.

Meanwhile, in the men’s division, Naveen also won his repechage round and will now fight for the bronze medal match later today at 14:30 Hrs IST.

9:47: Golden start

Indian women’s compound archery team of Jyothi Vennam, Aditi Swami and Parneet Kaur defeated the Chinese Taipei trio in the finals by 230-229, to open India’s day 12 medal tally with a gold medal.

9:14: Winning streak continues

Indian men’s kabaddi team continued their red-hot run as they registered their third straight victory after beating Chinese Taipei 50-27.

India will now play their final group-stage match against Japan at 14:30 Hrs IST, later today.

8:20: Big upset

Indian star shuttler PV Sindhu suffered a huge upset in the women’s singles quarterfinals as she lost to China’s He Bingjiao in straight sets of 16-21, 12-21, to end her Asian Games 2023 campaign.
