Asian Games 2023, September 24: India finishes with 5 medals on day 1; women’s cricket team reaches final to confirm one more

India enjoyed a successful day 1 at the 19th Asian Games, with three silver and two bronze medals.

New Delhi: After starting the 19th Asian Games 2023 on high earlier, India had a mixed day on the first day of medal events.

India started their day with the women’s shooting trio of Ashi Chouksey, Mehuli Ghosh and Ramita, securing a silver medal in the women’s 10m air rifle event, giving India their first medal of Asian Games 2023.

India’s rowing duo of Arun Lal Jat and Arvind Singh then won a silver medal in men’s lightweight double sculls to give India their second medal of the day.

Babu Lal Yadav and Lekh Ram then gave India their third medal by securing a bronze medal in the rowing men’s pair.

Rowing proved to be India’s biggest event on the first day as the men’s team won another bronze in the rowing men’s eight event.

Indian shooter Ramita, enjoyed double success on day 1, as she won a bronze medal in the Women’s 10m air rifle individual event.

India also ensured at least one more medal after the Indian women’s cricket team qualified for the finals after defeating Bangladesh women.

Indian men’s football also qualified for the round of 16, after a long gap of 13 years in the Asian Games.
