Asian Games 2023, September 25: India finishes day 2 with 11 medals; Roshibina Devi ensures one more in wushu

India won two gold medals on day of the 19th Asian Games 2023, with shooting and cricket providing one each.

New Delhi: India continued their dominant run on the second day of the 19th Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, China.

India started their day by winning their first gold of the event in the men’s 10m air rifle shooting team event, courtesy of the Indian shooting team of Rudraksha Patil, Aishwary Pratap and Divyansh Singh.

Rowing was once again India’s biggest asset, as they added three more bronze to the Indian medal tally.

India’s Aishwary Pratap Singh followed Ramita’s footsteps by winning two medals in one day by securing bronze in the men’s 10m air rifle individual shooting event.

India won another bronze in shooting courtesy of Vijayveer, Anish and Adarsh, in the men’s 25m rapid-fire team event, taking India’s medal tally to 10.

In the most anticipated event of the day, the Indian women’s cricket team defeated the Sri Lanka women’s team by 19 runs in the finals to secure India’s second gold medal of the day and take India’s medal tally to 11.

India also got one medal assured after the Indian wushu star Roshibina Devi reached the semifinals of the 60 Kg women’s event, to confirm at least one more bronze.

India’s Roshibina Devi assured one more medal for India as she won her quarterfinal match of wushu 60kg after defeating Kazakhstan’s Aiman by TKO, and qualified for the semifinals.

India’s Arundhati Choudhry loses out to China’s Yang L, in her round of 16 round, to end her Asian Games 2023 campaign.

16:20: Chess updates

In the men’s division, Vidit defeated Vietnam’s Le Tuan, while Arjun drew with Iran’s Amin Tabatabaei, in round 4.

In the women’s division, Koneru Humpy lost to China’s Hou Yifan, while Harika played a draw with Uzbekistan’s Nilufar Yakubbaeva.

Indian tennis legend Rohan Bopanna kept aside his shocking men’s double loss to register an emphatic win in mixed doubles with his partner Rutuja Bhosale in round 2.

Indian chess player Vidit defeated Thailand’s Prin, while Arjun defeated Vietnam’s Nguyen, to qualify for round 4 of the chess singles event.

14:41:Golden Glory

Indian women’s cricket team defeated the Sri Lanka women’s team by 19 runs, to win the gold medal in the first-ever cricket event at the Asian Games.

Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues and Titas Sadhu shine to give India their second gold at the Asian Games 2023.

Earlier, Bangladesh defeated Pakistan to win the bronze medal.

13:00: Gold medal match update (Cricket)

Indian women’s team finished with a total of 116 for 7 in 20 overs, in the gold medal match. Despite Smiriti Mandhana (46) and Jemimah Rodrigues (40), no other Indian batter managed to reach the double-digit score.

The Sri Lankan women’s team now need to score 117 in 20 overs to win the gold medal for their country.

Indian men’s basketball team defeated Malaysia in the 3X3 basketball event, in their first match by 20-16.

Ramkumar Ramanathan and Saketh Myneni qualified for the next round in the men’s doubles tennis event by winning their match by 6-3, 6-2.

Indian tennis duo of Rohan Bopanna and Yuki Bhamri and India’s biggest medal hope in men’s doubles event suffered a shocking exit in round 1 after losing out to Sergey Fomin and Khumoyun Sultanov of Uzbekistan by 3-6, 3-6.

11:58: Heartbreak for Vijayveer

India’s Viyayveer Sindu finished in fourth position in the men’s 25m rapid-fire pistol event.

11:10: Gold medal match update (Cricket)

Indian women’s cricket team won the toss and opted to bat first in their gold medal match against Sri Lanka women.

Harmanpreet Kaur returns and will be leading the team in the all-important final.

10:12: Another Bronze

Indian shooting trio of Vijayveer Sidhu, Anish and Adarsh Singh, secures a bronze medal in men’s 25m rapid fire pistol event, to take India medal tally to double figures.

Vijayveer qualifies for the finals of the Individual men’s 23m rapid-fire pistol event. The event will take place at 11:30 IST.

India’s Ramkumar Ramanathan moves to round 3, due to a walkover, while in women’s singles, Rutuja Bhoasle and Ankita Raina also move to round 2 after winning their matches by 7-6, 6-2 and 6-0, 6-0 respectively.

Indian shooter Aishwary Pratap won his second medal for the day as he secured a bronze medal in the men’s 10m air rifle individual event.
