Asian Games 2023, September 27, Day 4: Sift Kaur and Ashi Chouksey pull double success; check September 28 schedule for India

Indian shooters have taken on the day 4 of the 19th Asian Games by storm by winning multiple medals including two golds on the same day.

New Delhi: India saw their most successful day of the Asian Games 2023, on Wednesday, when they won a total of 8 medals across different events, including two gold, three silver and three bronze medals, taking the total medal tally to 22.

India started their day with a silver in the women’s 50m 3 positions team event, courtesy of the Indian shooting trio of Sift Kaur Samra, Manini Kaushik and Ashi Chouksey.

The second medal of the day came in the form of a gold medal when the Indian shooting team of Manu Bhaker, Esha Singh and Rhythm Sangwan secured the top spot in the women’s 25m pistol team event.

Then, the women’s 50m rifle 3 position individual event, came as a double success event for the Indian contingent as India’s Sift Kaur Samar and Ashi Chouksey won gold and bronze, respectively.

Indian men’s shooting team of Anant Jeet Singh Naruka, Gurjoat Singh Khangura and Angad Vir Singh Bajwa then gave India bronze in the men’s skeet team event, while the member of the same team, Anant Jeet Singh Naruka, won silver in the individual skeet event to add two more medals to the Indian tally.

India won their third medal in the sailing event when Vishnu Saravanan won a bronze medal in the men’s ILCA 7 event.

While all eyes were on Manu Bhaker in the women’s 25m pistol individual event, who eventually finished fifth, Esha Singh came out of nowhere and swept a silver medal from the event.

18:05: Medal assured

Indian tennis pair Ramkumar Ramanathan and Saketh Myneni won their quarterfinal match against  China’s Yibing Wu and Zhizhen Zhang by 6-1, 7-6, to qualify for the semifinals of the men’s doubles event to ensure one more medal for India.

17:33: World Champion stands tall

Indian world champion boxer Nikhat Zareen has qualified for the quarterfinals in the women’s 60 Kg division after defeating Korea’s Chorong Bak in the round of 16.

17:30: Wushu magic

Indian wushu star Roshobina Devi qualifies for the finals of women’s 60 Kg division, ensuring at least one more silver for India.

India won their second gold in shooting with the help of the women’s shooting team of Manu Bhaker, Esha Singh and Rhythm Sangwan in the 25m pistol team event.

Manu Bhaker and Esha Singh qualified for the individual finals after finishing in first and fifth positions, respectively. Rhythm Sangwan also finished seventh, within qualification, but has to miss out as a maximum of only two individuals from each contingent is allowed.
