Asian Games 2023, September 28, Day 5: Anush Agarwalla creates history with bronze in equestrian, India confirms 2 more medals; check the Indian schedule for September 29

Roshibina Devi opened India’s medal tally account on day 5, total medal tally moves to 25.

New Delhi: The Indian contingent enjoyed yet another day of great success at the Asian Games 2023, in Hangzhou, China.

India added three more medals to their overall medal tally on day 5, taking their overall number to 25.

India now has six gold, eight silver and eleven bronze medals under their name.

The first medal of day 5 came when the star wushu player Rohibina Devi clinched a silver medal in the women’s 60 Kg division.

Shooting took the Indian flag to the podium once again as the Indian shooting trio of  Sarabjot Singh, Shiva Narwal, and Arjun Singh Cheema secured the top spot in the men’s 10m air pistol team event.

India’s equestrian contingent created history once again when Anush Agarwalla became the first Indian to win an individual medal in the equestrian event by securing a bronze medal in the equestrian dressage individual event.

17:49: Tough loss

Indian boxer Deepak Bhoria suffered heartbreak as he bowed out of the Asian Games 2023, after losing out to Japan’s Tomoya Tsuboi in his round of 16 bout.

17:43: Another medal confirmed

Indian tennis pair of Rohan Bopanna and Rutuja Bhosale confirmed yet another medal for India as they qualified for the semifinals of the mixed doubles event by defeating Kazakhstan’s Zhibek Kulambayeva and Grigoriy Lomakin in straight sets of 7-5 and 6-3, in their quarterfinal match.

15:52: Big success ensured

Indian tennis duo of Saketh Myneni and Ramkumar Ramanathan ensured one more big medal for India after reaching the finals of men’s doubles by defeating South Korea’s Seongchan Hong and Soonwoo Kwon in the super tiebreaker round by 10-0, in the semifinals.

India won the first set by 6-1, but South Korea made a comeback by winning the second set by 7-6, forcing the match to go in the super tiebreaker round.

15:10: Individual glory ahead 

Indian table tennis star Sharath Kamal sails into the men’s singles round of 16, after winning his round of 32 match by 4-0 against Maldives’ Mohammed Saffan.

G Sathiyan also qualified for the round of 16 by beating Saudi Arabia’s Turki Lafi.

14:57: Finishing round 1 on high

Indian squash team won their final group-stage match against Nepal by 3-0, to finish at the top of ‘Group A.’

14:47: History created

Indian equestrian Anush Agarwalla has created history by winning the first-ever individual medal in equestrian dressage event in the Asian Games.

India’s women’s double pairs of Sreeja Akula, Diya Chitale and Sutirtha Mukherjee, Ayhika Mukherjee, qualified for the round of 16, after winning their round of 32 matches, respectively.

India’s Jaismine Lamboria defeated Saudi Arabia’s Hadeel Ghazwan via referee stop contest (RSC), in the round of 16, to qualify for the quarterfinals in the women’s 60 Kg division.

9:05: So close yet so far

After winning gold in the 10m air pistol team event, India’s Sarbjot Singh and Arjun Singh finished in fourth and eight spots respectively.

8:21: Double upset

Indian suffered a double upset in the table tennis mixed doubles event as the Indian pairs of Sreeja Akula, Harmeent Desai and Manika Batra, G Sathiyan lost their round of 16 bout to Thailand’s Phakpoom Sanguansin, Orawan Paranang and Singapore’s Chew Zhe Yu Clarence and Zeng Jian, respectively.

Indian shooting contingent adds yet another gold in the Indian medal tally as the Indian shooting trio of Sarabjot Singh, Shiva Narwal and Arjun Singh Cheema clinched gold in the men’s 10m air pistol team event.

China gets silver while Vietnam settles with bronze.

Indian women’s badminton team started their Asian Games 2023 campaign with a win over Mongolia in the round of 16.

India will now face Thailand in their quarterfinal match.

Indian wushu star Roshibina Devi opened India’s account on the fifth day of the event by winning a silver medal in the women’s 60 Kg division.
