Asian Games 2023, September 29, Day 6: India gets five medals in shooting, Kiran Baliyan gets first medal in track and field even; check full schedule for day 7

Indian shooting contingent broke the record of most medals in one single Asian Games edition set in the 2006 Doha Asian Games by adding 18 in the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games.

New Delhi: India dominated day 6 of the Asian Games 2023 in a scintillating fashion as they added seven more medals to their tally, taking the total number to 32.

Indian men’s shooting team of Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Swapnil Kusale and Akhil Sheoran clinched gold in the men’s 50m 3p team event to open India’s account on Friday.

The women’s shooting team soon added one more medal to the Indian tally by winning silver in the women’s 10m air pistol team event.

Palak Gulia and Esha Singh then added two more medals by winning gold and silver in the women’s 10m air pistol individual events, respectively.

Despite losing their games, the Indian men’s tennis doubles team and women’s squash team managed to add one silver and one bronze to the medals tally.

India’s final medal of the day came from the women’s shot put, where Kiran Baliyan clinched a bronze medal with the best of  17.36 in her third attempt.

India also ensured two more medals courtesy of semifinal qualification by the Indian men’s badminton team and started Indian boxer, Nikhat Zareen.

Indian women’s shot putter Kiran Baliyan clinched a bronze medal in the women’s shot put, giving India’s first track and field medal in the Asian Games 2023.

Indian men’s squash team defeated the defending champion Malaysia in the semifinal to set up a gold medal match date with the arch-rivals Pakistan.

India’s Swapnil Suresh finished fourth after leading almost the entirety of the event.

Indian tennis mixed doubles pair of  Rohan Bopanna and Rutuja Bhosale reached the finals of the mixed doubles event after beating the Chinese Taipei pair by 6-3, 3-6 and 10-3 in the semifinals and ensured at least one more silver in tennis.

Indian table tennis pair of Manav Thakkar and Manush Shah qualified for the quarterfinals after defeating  Singapore’s Pang Yew En Koen and Izaac Quek Yong by 3-2, in the round of 16.
