Asian Games 2023, September 30, Day 7: Indian men’s squash team wins gold, Boxers confirms 4 more medals

Indian mixed team pair Sarabjot Singh and Divya Thadigol won India’s 19th medal in shooting extending India’s record run.

New Delhi: India had a mixed day on day 7 of the Asian Games 2023, which is being held in Hangzhou, China.

India opened their medal tally once again by shooting on Saturday. Indian shooting mixed team of Sarabjot and Divya clinched silver to give India their 19th medal in shooting at Asian Games 2023, extending their record run.

Indian star tennis player Rohan Bopanna ended his Asian Games career with a gold in the mixed doubles event with his teammate Rutuja Bhosale.

India’s biggest win of the day came when the men’s squash team defeated Pakistan in the mixed doubles finals and gave India their 10th gold medal.

Boxer Preeti, Lovlina and Narender won their respective quarterfinal match, ensuring at least one bronze each in every event.

India’s biggest upset of the day came when the Olympics and Commonwealth Games medallist Mirabai Chanu failed to win her first Asian Games medal after finishing fourth in the women’s 49 Kg weightlifting event.

Indian men’s squash team clinched a gold medal after beating the arch-rivals Pakistan in the gold medal match of the squash men’s team event by 2-1.

Indian boxer Narender defeats Iran’s Iman by 5-0, in the quarterfinals of the men’s 92 Kg category to confirm India’s fourth medal in boxing at the Asian Games 2023.

14:04: Biggest upset of the tournament

India’s star weightlifter Mirabai Chanu fails to win her first-ever Asian Games medal after finishing fourth in the women’s 49 Kg category.

She finished with a best of 83 Kg in snatch and 108 in clean and jerk with a total of 191 Kg, which was 8 Kg less than the eventual bronze medal winner Thailand’s Thanyathon.

Indian table tennis pair Rohan Bopanna and Rutuja Bhosale defeated Chinese Taipei’s pair Liang and Huang in the mixed doubles finals to give India their first gold medal of day 7.

India now has 9 gold medals in Asian Games 2023.

12:31: Another gift from boxing

Indian world champion boxer Lovlina Borgohain confirms yet another medal for India after defeating Korea’s Suyeon Seong in the women’s 75 Kg category, to qualify for the semifinals by 5-0.

Lovlina joins Nikhat Zareen and Preeti Pawar on the list of qualified for the semifinals of their respective weight categories at the Asian Games 2023.

12:21: Another heartbreak

Indian table tennis veteran Manika Batra’s Asian Games 2023, campaign comes to an end after losing out to China’s Yidi Wang in the quarterfinals of the women’s singles division by 4-2.

India’s only challenge for a medal in table tennis is another veteran, Sharath Kamal, who will play his quarterfinal match later today.
