Australia’s ‘slogger’ Travis Head optimistic about the ‘funny’ possibilities of Super 8s and remarks that…

The 30-year-old is optimistic that the Super 8 is going to be a ‘funny’ affair for him and his entire team.

New Delhi: Defending ODI World Champions Australia have shown their swagger and flare in the T20 World Cup as well. A team which was on everyone’s card to make it to the semifinals has not disappointed in the World Cup so far. With three out of three wins, Australia’s ‘pragmatism’ has helped them progress through a plethora of situations.

One of the mainstays of Australia’s success this year has been the blistering form of Travis Head which he has carried on from the IPL. However, the 30-year-old is optimistic that the Super 8 is going to be a ‘funny’ affair for him and his entire team, hinting that there can be some upsets on the cards. The Caribbean pitches have been rack turners which has made the lives of the batsmen difficult.

Head’s measured innings against the Scots

Against a high-flying Scottish team, Head took a measured and judicious approach. The Australian opener who had a strike rate of 150+ in the powerplays, played a very judicious game. Head changed his philosophy of ‘watch the ball, hit the ball‘ approach to let the powerplay pass through.

Subsequently, after he reached his 45-ball half-century, Head unleashed a fury of shots to take on the Scottish bowlers. Talking about the changing approach, Head remarked, “There’s going to be times when it’s going to be done different ways.” Head’s measured innings eased the pressure on his partner, Marcus Stoinis who delivered yet again with the bat.

Australia in Super 8s!

The Aussies enter the Super 8s brimming with confidence after all their star players have shown resilience and grit. While in batting, the star duo of Warner and Head has piled on misery for the bowlers, in the bowling department Adam Zampa, Marcus Stoinis and Josh Hazelwood have spun a web in the tricky pitches of the Caribbean.

However, all that said, Australia is in a tough group featuring India, Afghanistan and Bangladesh. With two spots available, this group might become a group of death given the fact that only two teams can qualify from the four groups.
