Big Win for India! Lakshay Sen wins the first game of Thomas Cup final

Initially, Sen lost the first set 8-21 however, made a remarkable comeback in the second game, before also knocking off a four-point deficit in the third game.

New Delhi: The final encounter between India and Indonesia in Thomas Cup is taking place today at the Impact Arena in Bangkok. In the first phase of the match, Lakshya Sen from India gave his team a 1-0 lead after defeating Indonesia’s Anthony Ginting.

Initially, Sen lost the first set 8-21 however, made a remarkable comeback in the second game, before also knocking off a four-point deficit in the third game. Sen’s victory over Ginting was 8-21, 21-17, 21-16 in a match that continued for an hour and five minutes. Ginting’s score was 21-8 in the first game but Sen edged him in the second by 21-7.

Sen’s teammates are sending him congratulatory wishes for making the India team ahead with 1-0. HS Prannoy, who was the one to script history for India by making the team qualify for the final for the first time in history took to Twitter and wrote, “Yas yas yasssss @lakshya_sen you beauty!! 1-0 – India Come onnnnnnnnnnn.”

Meanwhile, the former captain of the Indian Hockey team wrote, “Lakshya Sen also a Mentality Monster Losing the first game 8-21 and losing 12 points in a row and yet finding the courage to come back and beat Olympic bronze medallist Anthony Ginting. Come on @lakshya_sen”

India has already scripted history by qualifying in the final for the first time in Thomas Cup by defeating Malaysia and Denmark respectively. Prannoy and Kidambi Srikanth have showcased their talent in the singles department, while Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty proved themselves in doubles.

On the other hand, Indonesia has defeated China and Japan in the quarters and semis respectively.
