New Delhi: The hashtag Boycott Chennai Super Kings has started trending on Twitter on Monday. The question here arises – why is the hashtag Boycott Chennai Super Kings trending? and what is the demand of those who are using the hashtag?

Under the hashtag, Twitteratis are demanding to boycott the four-time IPL champions because it has purchased Maheesh Theekshana. The CSK bought Maheesh to play the IPL 2022 during the IPL 2022 mega auction, held in Bengaluru.

What is the controversy behind Maheesh Theekshana?

Maheesh Theekshana is Sri Lankan fast bowler. Considering his bowling strength, CSK bought him for Rs 70 lakh.

He comes from Sinhalese background. It is reported that Sinhalese soldiers allegedly committed war crimes against Tamilians in Sri Lanka. The incident happened when the military took action against LTTE in 2009. The group was established demanding an independent Tamil state in Sri Lanka.

As a result, social media has been flooded with messages demanding to boycott the CSK. Meanwhile, some said the CSK should remove Maheesh Theekshana from the team.
