New Delhi: India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir recently revealed his plans to revamp the national side in the upcoming years. One of the main areas of concern that have gripped the cricket followers is whether will India see a change in the setup of the ODI, T20 and Test teams.
According to various reports, it is widely believed that Gautam Gambhir and the entire BCCI staff plan to make a systematic absorption of the large crop of talented Indian cricketers into the national side. In a previous interview with Ravichandran Ashwin, Gambhir had put up his elaborate plans which he hopes will make the selection process more systematic.
Key points from the Gautam Gambhir and Ajit Agarkar press conference:
– Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli can play in the 2027 World Cup if they choose to.
– The relationship between Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir is positive.
– Ravindra Jadeja has not been dropped from the ODI…— The wide Yorker (@TheWideYorker) July 22, 2024
GG was quoted by the Hindustan Times, “India’s T20I side should be selected from the IPL.” Gambhir further added, “For 50-over format, it should be selected from Vijay Hazare, and your Test side should be selected from your first-class cricket, red-ball cricket. As simple as that!”
Can India afford such a lucrative bifurcation?
The idea put forward by Gauti is lucrative and ambitious, but is it possible in reality? The idea looks simple but is difficult to execute. For Gauti’s “Dream Team” formula to come true, there should be close communication between the coaching staff and the BCCI officials.
Subsequently, the main task for Gautam Gambhir and Co. is to find the right mix of experience and upcoming talents to give a perfect blend to the national side.
What are the benefits?
Nevertheless, despite so many hurdles and challenges, GG is eager to take up this uphill task. In the modern game of cricket, the demands of each format require teams to be moulded on different principles. Naturally, the same team selection across different formats will lead to a compromise on the quality of output that is expected of the Indian national team.
