Can “Rainy Miami!” incarcerate India’s final group stage game against Canada?

India is set to take a depleted Canadian side in the last group-stage match of Group A at the Lauderhill stadium in Florida.

New Delhi: India is set to take a depleted Canadian side in the last group-stage match of Group A. The match is scheduled to take place in the Lauderhill cricket stadium i.e. the Broward County Stadium. But with huge torrential rains predicted in the weather forecast, authorities are sweating on the probability of yet another washout in the World Cup.

ICC World Cup 2024 has already seen the washout of some important matches, mainly the one between Scotland and England match. The three lions are now staring down the barrel of a possible group stage exit.

Torrential rains hit Miami!

On the other hand, cricket fans have urged the ICC to cancel the remaining matches from Florida and re-schedule them elsewhere so that a full 40-over match can be played. However, with incessant flash floods happening in Florida, any game is unlikely to get a green signal.

Furthermore, in some of the areas of Southern Florida, an orange alert has been issued to avoid any “life-threatening” situations. The National Weather Service in Miami has issued a warning to stay indoors and avoid travelling in the open. Many social media posts like the below one have shown the apathy of the Floridians in this tumultuous weather:

Flood warnings in the parts of Miami-Dade will be in effect till 8 am on Thursday- according to officials of the meteorological department. The situation is so gloomy that till now 284 flights have been cancelled locally. While at the Miami airport, a combined 326 flights were cancelled.

In such a precarious the probability of a washout is very high. While in India vs Canada, a washout doesn’t change any result given the fact that India has already qualified for the super 8s, in Pakistan vs Ireland, a washout means that the USA qualifies for the Super 8 even without bowling a single ball.
