New Delhi: Chess fervor has gripped the Southern city of Chennai as it gears up to host 44th Chess Olympiad and India’s first. The Olympiad will kick off with a grand ceremony at Mahabalipura, near Chennai today evening.
Chess Olympiad fever peaks in Chennai with Indian teams appearing primed for glory in the 44th edition of the prestigious event that starts on Thursday. While Prime Minister will kick off the mega event, several eminent residents of Tamil Nadu including Viswanathan Anand, Rajinikanth & others are overjoyed over the hosting of Olympiad in the Southern state.
This is the for the first time that India is hosting the coveted tournament in which more than 175 countries from across the globe will participate & compete for the top honors.
The tournament will officially begin on August 29 and will culminated on August 9. Today’s opening ceremony will see presence of many known & renowned personalities from the political & sports world.
