With Sanket Sargar starting the account of medals and Mirabai Chanu adding the first gold, the number went on to a total of 10 medals including three golds. The lifters received a grand welcome at the Amritsar airport.

They received this grand welcome as it was India’s weightlifters who began to bring in medals for the nation in Birmingham. Mirabai Chanu broke the games record and lifted 201 kg (86 kg + 115 kg) to win the first gold medal for India in the Birmingham games. The trail was followed by young lifters Jeremy Lalrinnunga and Achinta Sheuli who also brought home gold medals.

India won a total of 9 medals in the 2018 Gold Coast games, while they improved the tally by adding one more medal to it in 2022. After day 8, India has 26 medals in total, including 9 golds.
