New Delhi: 19-year-old from Mizoram, Jeremy Lalrinnunga sets a new CWG record, and wins gold in Men’s 67 kg weightlifting category. He lifted a total of 300 kg to set a new CWG record and also broke the snatch record by lifting 140 kg.
Jeremy successfully attempted 136 kg in his first attempt in the snatch round. He improved his attempt to set a new game’s record by lifting 140 kg. However, he failed to lift 143 kg in his third attempt. In the clean and jerk round he lifted 154 kg in his first attempt but suffered an injury during his lift. He came back to lift 160 kg and successfully completed the lift, while his injury triggered. Following the injury, he could not lift 165 kg in his third attempt, but his second attempt was enough to get the gold.

The silver medal was bagged by Samoa’s Vaipava Nevo Ioane as he lifted a total of 293 kg. His lift of 166 kg in the clean and jerk round set a new game’s record. On the other hand, Nigeria’s Edidiong Joseph Umofia won the bronze medal by lifting a total of 290 kg (130 kg + 160 kg).
With this gold medal, he became the fifth Indian weightlifter and fifth Indian overall to win a medal in the Commonwealth Games 2022. After Mirabai Chanu, it was a golden moment for Jeremy this time.
