CWG 2022: Mirabai Chanu nabs 1st gold for India in Birmingham [WATCH]

New Delhi: Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu gets the first gold for India in the ongoing Commonwealth Games in England’s Birmingham city.

Chanu further does a successful lift of 88 Kg in her second attempt of snatch to create a new CWG record in Women’s 49 Kg weight category.

The Indian weightlifter put on a stunning show at the snatch event as she lifted 84kg (snatch) in her very opening attempt and successfully went on to lift 88kg in her second shot.

However, the latter could not lift 90kg in the third attempt.

Previously, Chanu nabbed the gold in the last CWG and won the silver medal in the recently concluded Tokyo Olympics.

Earlier in the day, Indian weightlifter Gururaja Poojary brought the second medal for the country in form of bronze in the men’s 61kg category on Saturday.

Prior to Poojary,  Sanket Sargar won the first medal for India in the tournament with a silver in the 55kg men’s final.
