CWG 2022: PV Sindhu wins historic gold in women’s singles

With the win, PV Sindu clinched her first-ever women’s singles medal in Commonwealth Games 2022 and India’s first-ever gold in badminton at CWG 2022.

New Delhi: PV Sindhu beats Michelle Li of Canada 21-15 21-13 in final of women’s singles to win a gold medal in Commonwealth Games 2022.

In the match, PV Sindhu was a dominant figure, though her opponent competed well. She won the match in straight two games by 21-15, 21-13.

She started the game with brilliant hold.  During the match she was leading by 11-8.

Although, Michelle Li offered her Indian opponent great competition but failed in it.

In the first game, the result was a 21-15 win for Sindhu.

However, in the second game,  Li started on a good note. But PV Sindhu, missed no chance and took advantage again within no time.

On the other hand, the Canadian player kept making errors and this helped widening Sindhu’s lead with every failure.

At a point of time, Sindhu was in an advantageous position with an 11-6 lead.

After the break, PV Sindhu and Li had an exciting rally of 57 shots at one go, resulting to Indian losing a point.

Li had once again started to slowly gain an advantage over Sindhu by cutting the deficit. Resulting to reducing Sindu’s lead to 13-11.

However, this did not demotivate her, she kept fighting through the second game and eventually won it by 21-13.

With the win, PV Sindu clinched her first-ever women’s singles medal in Commonwealth Games 2022 and India’s first-ever gold in badminton at CWG 2022.
