New Delhi: Para power-lifter Sudhir scripted history in the Commonwealth Games by fetching points score of 134.5 and also bagging India’s 1st gold medal in the para powerlifting. Indai’s leading athlete in the para powerlifting category lifted 208 kg in first attempt and then betted it with 212 kg in the second lift.
In the second lift, as he lifted 212 kg and scored 134.5 points, it broke the previous Commonwealth Games record. The contestant who came second and won silver medal scored 133.6 points.
Sudhir has been a bronze medallist in Asian Para Games. He got affected by the polio.
The 27-year-old para athlete opened India’s medal account in para sports. Sudhir has many accolades in his kitty, prior to historic show in the ongoing Commonwealth Games at Birmingham.
He won the bronze medal in World Para Powerlifting Asia-Oceania Open Championship in June this year, where he lifted a weight of 214 kg. He had also qualified for Hangzhou 2022 Asian Para Games.
He started para powerlifting in 2013.

Sudhir, hailing from Haryana’s Sonepat was afflicted with polio at the age of four. He suffered many challenges & difficulties but persisted with his determination & zeal. Today, his weight-lifting prowess made the nation proud.
