New Delhi: The Australian southpaw, and one of the greatest batsman to ever grace the game of cricket, David Warner, has announced his retirement from One Day Internationals just two days prior to the beginning of the final test match of his career.

Warner made the announcement during a press conference at the Sydney Cricket Ground, where he revealed that he wants to give more time to his family going forward, and for that, he will be bidding adieu to the longest format of red-ball cricket as well as the longest format of the white ball cricket.

However, Warner did not rule out the possibility of one last dance, as according to the southpaw, if he will be playing good quality cricket in the next two years and if the team requires his services, he will consider one last outing in the ODI cricket at the Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan.

Warner on his decision

David Warner, during the interview, said that, the retirement from the ODIs was something that was going behind the back of his mind since the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, which was played in India.

Warner also mentioned that going through the tournament and actually winning it would be a massive achievement in his career.

Warner’s career in numbers

The prolific Aussie batsman in his career played a total of 161 ODI matches, amassing a total of 6932 runs with an impressive average of 45.01, which included 22 centuries and 33 half-centuries.

Warner also had an impactful test career, in which he played a total of 111 test matches while amassing a total of 8695 runs, with an interesting average of 44.59, which includes 26 centuries and 36 half-centuries.

Warner’s test stats, however, can change as he will play one more test match against Pakistan starting on January 3, at the Sydney Cricket Ground, before calling the final curtains on his illustrious red ball cricket career.
