New Delhi: The three-match ODI series between India Women and England Women concluded in a dramatic manner as India won by 16 runs. Setting up a target score of 170 runs, the team ended up shaking England by knocking out most wickets. England was down by their last wicket, still needing over 50 runs to win. However, the only hope was on Charlotte Dean which was ended by off-spin bowler Deepti Sharma.

In the 44th over, the off-spinner Deepti Sharma changed the whole scenario of the game. She pulled out from finishing her fourth ball in the same out as she spotted Dean rush out of the crease before she had released the ball.

Although the commentators on-air and England captain Amy Jones expressed their displeasure at the manner of the dismissal, India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur defended her teammate stating that the dismissal showed Deepti’s awareness.

The England dressing room was shocked after the dismissal. The decision was sent to the third umpire by the onfield umpires to check if Deepti was in her delivery stride when Dean walked out of the crease.

Besides, Dean was also in tears when the dismissal was confirmed but she also went and shook hands with the Indians as soon as the third umpire’s decision was announced.
