F1 star Sebastian Vettel announces retirement, says ‘goal has shifted’

The four-time world champion will retire from the sport at the end of the season.

New Delhi: Germany’s star FI racer Sebastian Vettel has announced his retirement via Instagram post. The four-time world champion will retire from the sport at the end of the season. Ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix, the FI driver announced that it will be his 5th and a final full season in Formula 1.

Talking about the reasons for his retirement he said that he has a life outside the track, he loves the sport but now his goal has shifted to see his children grow and be with his family. Throughout the video, he kept on saying that ‘there is still a race to win’, which he also wrote in the caption. He was also being vulnerable in the video and shared about his life and personality traits. He said, “I love being outside and love nature and its wonders. I’m stubborn and impatient. I can be really annoying.”

Vettel made his debut with BMW Sauber in the 2007 United States Grand Prix, and between 2010 and 2013, he went on to win the world title four times with Red Bull. He is also third on the all-time list of Grand Prix winners with 53 victories, just behind Lewis Hamilton (103) and Michael Schumacher (91).

His fans in India are also emotional and are remembering his victory in the Indian Grand Prix in 2013.
