FIFA World Cup 2022: Check out 5 big names missing tournament in Qatar

There are some players who have made an impact in the international arena while some were about to play their first World Cup and will have to miss it.

New Delhi: FIFA World Cup 2022 is about to begin, and while fans are excited to watch their favourite players in international colours, a few players will not be a part of it. Like every year there are a few big names who will miss the World Cup. There are some players who have made an impact in the international arena while some were about to play their first World Cup and will have to miss it.

The Qatar World Cup begins on November 20 and will open up the gateways for fans to enjoy the football fever. It is expected that this might be the last World Cup for stars like Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Neymar Jr., and there will be some players who might get a grand international farewell.

Here is a list of 5 football stars to miss the Qatar World Cup:

1. Renato Sanches

Sanches, who was a tremendous young talent back then, will miss the 2022 World Cup. He took Portugal to UEFA Euro 2016 victory and was named the tournament’s best young player. From there on, while people expected him to grow as a star player, he struggled with injuries and depleting form. Now, when he settled with Paris Saint-Germain after changing a lot of clubs, the national team’s management was not convinced enough to put him into the squad.

2. Sergio Ramos

A superstar, a World Cup winner and a two-time European Championship winner Sergio Ramos’ exclusion has broken the hearts of many fans. He has been out of Spain’s team due to injuries in the 2021-22 season. He has played 20 games for PSG this season and was performing well. He also scored a goal and assisted one for his club. Still manager Luis Enrique chose not to include the 2010 World Cup winner in the squad.

3. Jadon Sancho

Sancho was removed from the national squad last November and he has not been able to give a formidable performance since then. He was transferred to Manchester United for £73 million but has not been able to produce a performance worth it. The youngster was last seen in the English team in the 2021 Euro finals.

4. Mats Hummels

Another big name who has been there in the international circuit for quite some time now. He has been part of the German squad since 2010, won the 2014 World Cup and played for his national side in the 2018 World Cup too. Hummels and Germany did not have a great European Championship, which led to his being dropped out of the team. The exclusion has made him and his fans really upset.

5. Thiago Alcantara

With Ramos and Thiago Alcantara not in the Spanish squad for the Qatar World Cup, it seems like the team is looking for some young talent and has decided to move past the big names. While the 31-year-old footballer was named Liverpool’s player of the month for April 2022, he could not find a place in the Spanish side.
