FIFA World Cup 2022: Know everything about Qatar’s 8 stadiums where matches are scheduled

New Delhi: World’s biggest football competition, the FIFA World Cup is scheduled to be held in Qatar, starting on November 20. The tournament will begin on November 20 and will continue till December 18, almost a month from the start date. This is the first time that an Arab nation won the bid to organise the tournament.

However, this will also be the first time that the matches will be played between November and December against the regular June and July. In the tournament, 32 teams will be seen in the action on the eight grounds.

The first match will be held in Al-Bayt stadium while the final match will be played in the iconic Lusail stadium. Below here, we are going to tell you more about all eight stadiums.

The list of stadiums is as follows:

1. Lusail Iconic Stadium

Lusail Iconic Stadium has been chosen for the world cup final because of its capacity. The stadium houses 80 thousand of people. The construction for the stadium was started in 2017 and completed in 2021. The stadium is equipped with a top-class cooling system.

2. Al-Bayt Stadium 

Al-Bayt Stadium is the second biggest stadium in the country. This stadium has a capacity of 60,000. The construction of the stadium began in 2014 and it took 7 years to complete it. In the stadium, nine matches will be played, including 3 knock-out matches.

3. Education City Stadium 

Education City Stadium was opened in the year 2020 after years of its construction started in 2016. This stadium is called to be the most environment-friendly stadium in the world. There are a total of 45,320 people who can sit in the stadium.

4. Stadium 974

The Stadium was assigned a strange name because it is made from 974 recycled shipping containers. It took three years to complete the bridge after the construction begin in 2018. Notably, the ground will be dismantled after the world cup. It has the capacity of 40,000.

5. Khalifa International Stadium 

Khalifa International Stadium of Qatar is one of the oldest stadiums in the country. It has a capacity of 40,000 people after the renovation between 2014 to 2017. Its name is based on Qatar’s former Emir Khalifa bin Hamed Al Thani.

6. Khalifa International Stadium 

The stadium is also dedicated to former Emir Ahmad bin Ali Al Thani. Ahmad bin Ali Stadium is mostly used for football matches. In the stadium, 9 teams will play the FIFA World Cup 2022.

7. Al Thumma Stadium 

Located in the capital city of Qatar, Doha, Al Thumma Stadium has a sitting capacity of 40 people. It was opened on October 21, 2021, after the 12 years of construction started in 2017. The quarter-final match of the Football world cup 2022 will be played in the stadium.

8. Al Jacob stadium 

The Al Janob stadium was inaugrarted on May 16 in 2019. The designed roof is inspired by the sails of traditional Dhow boats. In the stadium, 40,000 people can sit.
