Former badminton player Saina Nehwal breaks silence; Branded as “Kangana Ranaut” of sporting world?

Saina Nehwal, former Indian shuttler and Olympic bronze medalist has been trolled recently for her comment on javelin throw and Neeraj Chopra.

New Delhi: Former Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal has hit back at the allegations directed towards her after she remarked “When Neeraj won, that’s when I got to know there is an event in athletics.” Saina’s irresponsible statement may have come with the utmost honesty, but the comments did not sit well with the netizens who have branded her as the “Kangana Ranaut” of the sporting world.

Although the former Olympian had become the bronze medalist in the past as well as the first female World no. 1, her above statements have left netizens bemused. Subsequently, the netizens have started a whirlpool of trolls which has. engulfed Nehwal on social media.

How did Saina respond to the allegations?

Hitting out at her trollers, Saina replied with a gracious smile that she welcomed the compliments but said that, unlike Kangana, she had to play and train hard to get the due cognizance. Furthermore, Saina said that sitting in cosy chairs inside air-conditioned rooms and commenting is very easy, the hard task is to venture out and win the tough competitions.

Interestingly, this is not the first time Saina has run into rough weather for her wayward comments. Earlier, she was criticised vehemently by Angkrish Raghuvanshi (KKR batsman) after she drew a comparison between cricket and badminton. In response, Saina remarked, “Why would I face Jasprit Bumrah anyways? If I had been playing for 8 years maybe I would have answered Jasprit Bumrah…”
