New Delhi: Former elite umpire Asad Rauf passed away at the age of 66 after suffering a cardiac arrest in Lahore. He was a part of the ICC Elite Panel from 2006 to 2013.
Asad Rauf officiated in 64 Tests, 139 ODIs and 28 T20Is. In 2006, he had joined the ICC elite panel a year after officiating his first Test.
It was in 2013, when Asad Rauf emerged in the IPL spot-fixing scandal and then his career took a nosedive.
In 2016, Rauf was charged of spot-fixing and match-fixing in cricket matches, and in February in the same year he received a five-year suspension after he was found guilty of corruption.
Pakistan Cricket Board chief Ramiz Raja condoled the death of Asad Rauf. Taking to Twitter he wrote:
Saddened to hear about passing of Asad Rauf. Not only was he a good umpire but also had a wicked sense of humour. He always put a smile on my face and will continue to do so whenever I think about him. Many sympathies with his family for their loss.
