Former Indian cricketer Wriddhiman Saha announces retirement from international cricket

One of India's finest wicket-keepers of all time, Wriddhiman Saha has announced his decision to hang his boots from all forms of the game.

New Delhi: One of India’s finest wicket-keepers of all time, Wriddhiman Saha has announced his decision to hang his boots from all forms of the game. In a post on social media, Saha wrote that his cricketing journey will end after the ongoing Ranji Trophy campaign. Saha is happy to be representing Bengal for ‘one final time’ but plans to retire after the end of the campaign. Arguably the finest wicket-keeper India has had in recent times, based on pure keeping skills, Saha reportedly doesn’t plan to feature in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season too.

A reliant middle-order batsnman and a wicket keeper of excellent reflexes, Wriddhiman Saha was a long time part of the national side before being released from the central contracts by the BCCI in 2023. Since being released, he never made a comeback to the Test side.

Wriddhi’s IPL career

Besides his stint with the national side, Wriddhiman Saha also had a fanstastic IPL career. In total, the veteran wicket-keeper has played for a total of 5 franchises in his career – Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Punjab Kings (PBKS), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Gujarat Titans (GT).

However, his most memorable knocks will always be the herculean effort that he had put during the IPL 2014 final where he scored a blistering century to take his side to a competitive score against the Kolkata Knight Riders. Although the Knight Riders managed to win the match coutesy of a blistering knock of Manish Pandey, Saha’s knock was cheered and acknowledged by the fans and players of both sides.
