New Delhi: KKR displayed an all-round performance on-field to win their third IPL title after a gap of 10 years. One of the biggest reasons for the success of Knight Riders this year has been the charisma and the on-field planning of Gautam Gambhir.

Gambhir returned to the side after a gap of 7 years albeit in mentorship roles and has made an instant impact at both the franchise level and the national level. Gautam’s return to the side as mentor saw the franchise making some tough decisions which has paid off dearly for the side.

However. amidst all the hustle and bustle of IPL, Gautam Gambhir’s name is also doing the rounds of BCCI as the next head coach of India. Moreover, after KKR’s win over SRH, Gautam Gambhir was seen in an intense verbal exchange with the BCCI president Jay Shah which has sparked speculations far and wide over the internet.

Gambhir’s tete-a-tete with Jay Shah

BCCI’s hunt for the head coach of the Indian National team has intensified amidst widespread speculations and rumours. Authorities have considered various names in their quest for a head coach. Many possibilities like that of Justin Langer, Ricky Ponting and Stephen Fleming have also been considered.

However, keeping all the speculations aside BCCI has claimed that the authorities have not contacted the likes of Justin Langer and Ricky Ponting for the post. Now, another round of speculations is gathering fire that Gambhir is affirmative in taking on the mantle of the Indian team.

According to a recent report from Dainik Jagaran, Gambhir has put “one condition” before the board if he decides to fill in the application form for the head coach. Furthermore, the report also claims that Gambhir’s willingness to try his hand at coaching the Indian team is subjective to the fact that Dravid’s departure from the coaching scenario is affirmative.

If GG decides to take up the coaching responsibility of the national side, he would have to leave the responsibility of KKR. Now, the question that remains is whether GG will be willing to let go of his mentorship role at KKR and what will be the “condition” that he has put before the board albeit domestic success as a mentor?
