New Delhi: Former cricketer, currently Aam Aadmi Party Rajya Sabha MP, Harbhajan Singh accused Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) president Gulzar Inder Singh Chahal of corruption. Harbhajan, who is also PCA’s chief advisor, wrote to association members, its district units and Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann, accusing the current president and his regime of indulging in unlawful activities.
The cricketer told that PCA is trying to induct 150 members with voting rights to keep the balance in their favour, and these inductions are being done without the knowledge of the apex council or general body and even without consulting the chief advisor. He accepted that once he supported Chahal, but he did not know about his motives. He added that he wants to keep Punjab cricket clean and that he represents a political party whose sole motive is to fight corruption.
He also expressed that if CM Bhagwant Mann gives him the responsibility to take the charge as the president, he will do the work ‘honestly and diligently’. Meanwhile, Chahal, who became PCA’s youngest president, refused to comment on the matter. Chala said, “Since this matter is under consideration of the Worthy Ombudsman, it will not be appropriate for me to issue any statement.”
Harbhajan Singh has played 103 Test matches for India, picking up 417 wickets and also has 294 wickets in international white-ball cricket. He was also part of the 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 World Cup winning teams. He played his last international game in 2016 and became a Rajya Sabha member from AAP in 2022.
